toxic work-from-home habits we should definitely break away from

It’s been almost 4 months since we have remained inside our homes and although the lockdown has been relaxed over the country, some of us are still working from home. Well, during this long period of time, your perception of WFH might have changed considerably. What might have looked like a relaxing boon initially, must have now turned into your biggest nightmare. That’s probably because of the unhealthy and toxic work from home habits you have inculcated during this lockdown.

If you’re still thinking to change your ways, but are having a hard time locating the problem, here are 5 toxic work from home habits to start with.

2/6

Switching on the laptop as soon as you wake up

One of the most identifiable work from home habit is waking up to your work, instead of the morning itself. It is extremely toxic to begin your day on such a note. This also means that you slept thinking about your work too, which is highly problematic. Learn to give yourself some time and calm your senses before switching on to your work.

3/6

Always working in bed

Have you abandoned your work station at home and jumped to spending the entire day in bed to work? Then it couldn’t be more toxic than it already is. Working on the bed makes a person completely lazy. Other than the official work, the employee does not engage in any other activity, which affects the mental as well as the physical health of the person. Try and stay away from the bed at least when you’re in your work zone.

4/6

Never shutting down

Some people are continuously anxious about their work. Even when it’s time to call it a day, they either continuously refresh their pages or are chained to their phones 24/7. This can take a toll on your mental state and can also distance you from your family.

5/6

No breaks in between

Unlike working from the office, there doesn’t seem to be enough breaks when you work from home. While you’re already at home, you’re always under the guilt of being home anyways, that you choose not to give yourself any breaks in between. But whether you’re at the office or at home, breaks are highly important, in order to freshen up the mind.

6/6

Serious FOMO and anxiety

When we are at our workplaces, we are constantly aware of what goes on. But while being at home, our phones and emails are our only source of office-related information. Therefore, we feel obliged to carry our phones everywhere with us, while we can’t help but experience the fear of missing out on important notices and news. Even though it is important to remain updated about everything, we need to cut ourselves some slack and relax.
