How to impart social emotional skills that supports child’s development

Social emotional skills are required for a child to understand himself or herself while managing emotions and developing a significant relationship with others. It consists of numerous constructive skills such as physical and emotional management, social and self awareness, decision making and friendships. From obediently following the school’s decoram to successfully being able to resolve the problems during a fight, social skills are interrelated and fundamental in every aspect of the developmental phase. While at times if a parent or a mentor fails to impart these social emotional skills to a child, it could give rise to a certain mental abnormalities or behavioural disorders.

Here are those crucial social emotional skills, that shouldn’t be overlooked:

2/10

Self Management

Self management is a pivotal ability that helps a child classify and differentiate between critical ambitions and priorities and accordingly, helps them manage their emotions.

3/10

Self Awareness

Self awareness involves the knowledge of inbuilt qualities, behaviour and emotions. By focusing on this skill, one can boost memory, ability to analyse and appropriately present reasons and most importantly intelligence.

4/10

Decision making

Taking the right decisions and making constructive choices through suitable information is the obligatory aspect of decision making.

5/10

social Awareness

Be it a difference in religion, ages, genders, or ethnicity, one should humbly accept others while also acquiring unique and fine qualities from others.

6/10

Relationship

In order to maintain a healthy relationship, one needs to cooperate, actively participate, counter unrequited social pressure while effectively negotiating or dealing at times of conflict too.

7/10

Story telling

Take out time to narrate unique moral stories. Discuss thoroughly about the characters, their behaviour, qualities and ability to deal with different situations. This helps the kid to acknowledge both social and emotional cues.

8/10

Time table

Ask them to set a time table for the daily routine. This would help them to remain organised while being pro in taking major decisions and responsibilities. Frequently ask them to draw or describe what they want to see themselves as in future.

9/10

Letter writing

Ask them to share their feelings, share stories or problems to their loved ones in the form of letters since handwritten things impart greater impact than the chats or spoken words. This method would help them to build strong connections with people.

10/10

Family time

Involve yourself and your kid in a constructive family discussion. Allow your kids to share stress, frustration, or any form of sadness. Console and teach them to cope with such harsh situations.

While during weekends or holidays find some time to do charity work, play games, or visit parks.

This practice is important for you to be involved with your child, know about them, and build a strong bonding.
