7 simple daily yoga exercises for children for sharper eyesight

In modern times where everything is digitally driven, kids spend more time looking at screens for online learning, video games, or entertainment. Unfortunately, all the extra screen time tires eyes, dries them out, and deteriorates eyesight at a very young age. Though regular eye checkups and limited screen time are the need of today's time , incorporating easy yoga exercises into any child's daily routine can also contribute to improving one's eyesight.

Yoga not only aids the body and mind, but also powerful means for eye muscle development, concentration improvement, and visual system soothing. The following are 7 easy daily yoga exercises that children can do to aid and improve their eyes naturally:

2/9

Palming

The child should rub his or her palms until they are warm, and then put them over his or her closed eyes without pressure. Palming is soothing to tired eye muscles, removes tension from the eyes, and is relaxing. It's especially beneficial following computer sessions or reading.

3/9

Eye rotation

With head in a steady position, slowly move the eyes in various directions - up and down, from left to right, and round and round in clock and anticlockwise movements. 5–10 times each. Eye rotation increases flexibility of eye muscles, sharpens concentration, and stiffens eyesight. Excellent for general movement of the eyes.

4/9

Trataka (candle gazing)

In this one has to light a candle and hold it at eye level at around 2 feet away from them. Then gaze steadily into the flame without blinking as long as it is comfortable, then relax and close the eyes. Trataka is an ancient yogic practice which results in increased concentration, strengthens optic nerves, and cleanses the eyes.

5/9

Blinking exercise

Blink the eyes 10 to 15 times repeatedly and then close them and rest for a few seconds. Do it 3 to 5 times. Blinking the eyes repeatedly moistens the eyes naturally and also lubricates them, that keeps away the dryness caused by screen use.

6/9

Near and far focus

Place a finger or pencil 6 inches away from the eyes. Then look at it for a few seconds, after which glance away to something in the distance (such as a tree outside the window). Repeat this at least 10 to 15 times. This keeps the eyes from nearsightedness and farsightedness. It also stretches the eye lenses.

7/9

Eye squeeze and relax

In this the child should close his/her eyes tightly for 5 seconds, then open them wide and do this repeatedly 5 to 10 times at least. This leads to strengthening of eye muscles and refreshed tired eyes, usually after a long study or screen time.

8/9

Brahmari (bee breathing)

For this sit down comfortably and close the eyes, breathe in and out deeply and slowly with a humming sound as created by a bumblebee when it flies by. This yogic exercise calms nervous system and increases concentration and mental clarity, which indirectly activates vision and relaxation of the eyes.
Doing these simple yoga exercises daily could potentially allow children to possess healthy eyesight, reduce tension, and promote all-around visual performance. These are very simple to perform, only take few minutes, and can be performed without any additional equipment. If children are encouraged to make them a routine, it not only helps their eyes but also raises consciousness, posture, and well-being.

9/9
