
Onion Uttapam is a classic South Indian breakfast. It refers to a thick, soft pancake made from fermented rice–lentil batter and topped with chopped onions and cooked to perfection. It is best served with sambar and coconut chutney. Take a look at the recipe.

2 cups idli rice, ½ cup urad dal, 1 tsp fenugreek seeds, salt to taste, water, 1–2 onions, 1–2 green chilies, 2 tbsp fresh coriander leaves, and oil for cooking

Wash urad dal and fenugreek seeds and soak separately for 4 hours. Also, wash and soak rice for 6-8 hours.

Grind them with a little water to make a fluffy batter.

Next, add salt lightly and mix well and let ite ferment in a dark place for 8-12 hours.

Heat a tawa on medium heat and pour a ladle of batter and keep it thick.

Sprinkle onions, chilies, coriander on top and drizzle oil around edges. Cook until it turns golden brown and edges turns crisp.

Your Onion Uttapam is ready. Enjoy with sambar and chutney.
