Clare Mackintosh's debut book 'I Let You Go' was published in 2011. The story is about a single mother, Jenna Gray, who loses her young son in what the police thinks to be a hit-and-run case. The sudden death of her child turns Jenna's life upside down and she decides to move to a remote part of the Welsh coast to reclaim her life. But just as she starts to feel that she can move-on, surprisingly her past catches up with her. This thriller was a best-seller and the debut book also won the Theakston's Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year Award in 2016.

Readers of Paula Hawkins, Rachel Abbott, Ruth Ware would like this engaging psychological thriller which was published in 2016. Zoe Walker sees her picture in the classifieds section of a newspaper in London and is surprised. There is no explanation for the grainy picture; the advert only has a website link and a phone number. But she is clueless as to why is her photo in the paper. Meanwhile, her family is convinced that it isn't her photo but of someone else who looks like Zoe. The next day the advert has another woman's picture and this trend continues. Mackintosh's 'Let Me Lie' released in 2018. The story follows Anna, who lost her mother Caroline Johnson a year ago. Caroline chose to brutally end her life, just months after her husband killed himself. While their daughter Anna is trying to come to terms with her loss and she believes Caroline's death was a murder, but the police say it was a suicide. They're both wrong! Anna, who now has a young child of her own, misses her mother more than ever and starts questioning her parents' deaths. But the more she digs up about the past, the more she is putting her future in danger.

Drifting from her usual mystery-thrillers, Clare Mackintosh's 2019 novel 'After the End' is a deeply moving psychological fiction about a young couple who have to make a difficult choice regarding their son's life. Max and Pip Adams live in London with their almost-three-year-old son, Dylan Adams. But when Dylan is diagnosed with a brain tumour their life is changed forever. Dylan undergoes chemotherapy treatment and surgery to remove the tumour, but his chances of leading a normal life are bleak. Ultimately, the Adams are asked to make a choice about their son's life by Dylan’s doctor. The couple is divided in their choice: either they can let Dylan die naturally or they try prolonging their son's life. Mackintosh then imagines Adams' lives in both cases. This is an emotionally moving novel about dealing with one's loss is inspired by the author's own experience, of losing one of her critically ill children.
