Elisabeth Moss narrating 'The Handmaid's Tale' audiobook
The Handmaid’s Tale's audiobook will be narrated by Elisabeth Moss, who starred in the TV adaptation of the book.
The Handmaid’s Tale is the modern classic by Margaret Atwood which is set in a dystopian near future and greatly explores sexism in society. It was published in 1985 and won the Governor General's Award and the first Arthur C. Clarke Award. It was also nominated for the 1986 Booker Prize as well.
It has been adapted into a movie, some plays and most recently a TV show. The TV show bought interest back to the story as it's as relevant now as it was then. The show has 2 seasons so far and currently a third season is being filmed. Elisabeth Moss, who plays Offred will be reading the recent version of the audiobook to be released.
The author said, "I am delighted that Elisabeth Moss has agreed to narrate this new audio edition of The Handmaid’s Tale. Her reading is powerful, haunting, compelling, and authentic. She is a natural actor who values the truth of a role above her own star quality. I have been so lucky to have had her interpreting Offred,", as reported by The Bookseller.
The audiobook will be released by Penguin Random House Audio. The editor, Alice Twomey, told The Bookseller “Elisabeth Moss is the perfect narrator for this audiobook. Elisabeth mesmerised audiences around the world with her award-winning performance in the television series of The Handmaid’s Tale and now her stunning narration has brought Offred’s story brilliantly, and chillingly, to life in audio. It is a truly powerful listen.”
This is not the only time the story has had an audiobook. One was made of the unabridged text and read by Claire Danes. It won the Audie Award for fiction in 2013
