‘Dhurandhar’ star Akshaye Khanna’s honest journey with premature balding and 5 desi remedies that can truly help men facing the same issue
It’s been a while since Bollywood delivered a film where the star cast roared with such intensity that it created cheers even before its release. This was the buzz of the ‘Dhurandhar’ pre-release, where the film announced the leading cast starring Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, and Sanjay Dutt.
Where people flocked in to see Ranveer Singh on the big screen after 2 years, every one of them came out singing appreciation songs for Akshaye Khanna. The actor stole the show in this Aditya Dhar starrer and reigned supreme with his swag. He is the simmering danger in the film, where his silence spoke louder than his dialogue.
Now, the actor is all over the headlines for his iconic entry in the film, where he literally ‘ate’ and left no crumbs. However, no one can ignore the fact that he’s looking dashing in a full-coverage wig, which gave him a charming look, making his features more dapper. This has apparently become a point of discussion, as the actor had gone through a rough patch, experiencing premature balding, which led to his downfall in Bollywood.
But the actor never shied away from talking about it. According to a report in iDiva.com, the actor opened up about his experience and said, “It started happening to me at such a young age. For me, it was like a pianist losing his fingers. It almost felt like that in those days. Till you come to terms with it. It then starts bothering you less. It’s heartbreaking.”
He further added, “You might lose a year or two years of your career. Because the way you look as an actor is very important. Especially the face. The body can still be covered a bit. At 19–20, it is devastating.” He also said, “It is heartbreaking. It can mentally kill you,” Khanna said in an interview, adding that it did “affect my self-confidence a lot as a young actor. It did affect me more than I would like to admit.”
Premature balding in men can be linked to genetics, family history, hormonal changes, weight loss, intake of certain supplements, and lifestyle changes as well. So, if you’re one of them, then take a look at these 5 desi remedies which can prevent or delay the process.
Apply the combination of coconut oil and curry leaves: Simply warm half a cup of virgin coconut oil and add 10–12 fresh curry leaves until they crackle and darken. Let the oil cool down, strain it, and massage it into the scalp. Leave it overnight and wash it off the next morning.
Onion juice: Onion juice has high sulphur content, which improves blood flow, boosts collagen production, and stimulates the hair follicles. You just need to blend two onions, strain the juice, and apply it to the scalp with a cotton ball. Leave it for 30 to 45 minutes and then rinse it off.
Methi paste: Fenugreek, aka methi, is rich in protein and nicotinic acid, which strengthen the hair roots. Soak 3 tablespoons of methi seeds overnight and grind them into a smooth paste. Apply this to the scalp and leave it for 45 minutes before rinsing.
Amla mask: Amla is packed with vitamin C and antioxidants, which boost collagen production. Blend two tablespoons of amla powder with coconut oil and add aloe vera gel. Apply this paste to the scalp, leave it for 40 minutes, and rinse it off with lukewarm water.
Apply fresh aloe vera: You can apply fresh aloe vera gel directly to the scalp whenever you’re free, keeping the area calm and away from inflammation. It also balances the pH levels. Leave it for 30 minutes before rinsing and apply at least twice a day.
