Chia seeds mask for a clear skin

Blackheads are pesky and annoying skin issues, but they are one of the most common and stubborn problems to treat. While there are countless products like blackhead strips and scrubs on the market that claim to diminish them, they don’t guarantee complete removal and recurrence of blackheads. To prevent the harsh or too expensive impact of these, why don’t you try a simple, homemade chia seed and rice water mask that’s surprisingly effective in clearing blackheads and clogged pores and removing any dullness on the skin?

2/5

Why this mask works

This simple mask is brimming with the antioxidant power of chia seeds and has the soothing feeling and skin-brightening effects of fermented rice water. The result? A skin-friendly treatment that removes blackheads from the root without damaging your skin barrier.

Chia seeds contain antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids. When they are soaked, they form a gel-like consistency that is great to gently exfoliate the skin while calming and hydrating it.

Rice water has skin-brightening abilities, and when fermented overnight, it can help soothe inflammation, reduce pore size, and lighten blemishes. Rice water also contains enzymes that gently remove dead skin cells.

Ingredients you’ll need to prepare this mask

Chia seeds, 1 tablespoon

Rice water ½ cup (fermented overnight)

Optional:Tea tree oil 2 drops (for added anti-bacterial benefits)

How to make and use the mask

Add fermented rice water to one tablespoon of chia seeds. Let it sit in a bowl for at least 20–30 minutes until the seeds swell up and the mixture turns into a jelly-like consistency.

If you have oily or acne-prone skin, add a dash of tea tree oil, which has antibacterial properties to heal acne and enhance the blackhead removal process.

Using clean fingers or a brush, apply the mask evenly across your face. Put more of the mask on areas where blackheads are more visible, like the nose, chin, and forehead.

Leave the mask on for 15–20 minutes. Scrape off the mask using a spatula when it is semi-dry. Remember not to dry the mask on your skin completely. Scraping the mask off can tighten the skin and help draw out impurities from your pores.

Rinse off the mask using warm water. Avoid scrubbing your face. Follow with your regular toner and moisturizer.

5/5

when to use this mask

You can use this mask 2–3 times a week, depending on your skin type. If you have dry or sensitive skin, using it only once a week is enough to get rid of all the blackheads without over-exfoliating.
