Lawyers suspend work at Karkardooma court, deny police entry: What led to protest?

NEW DELHI: Lawyers at the Karkardooma Court complex in Northeast Delhi suspended work on Friday in protest against alleged police inaction in a case involving the assault and robbery of an advocate in the Ghazipur Police station area. Police officials were barred from entering the court premises as part of the protest. The Shahdara Bar Association (SBA), representing all lawyers in the complex, issued a notice after an emergency meeting of its Executive Committee, highlighting the brutal attack on advocate Sanjeev Chaudhary. Despite filing an FIR and providing photographs of the assailants and the registration number of their vehicle, the association claimed that the police had taken no substantial action against the accused. The SBA also raised concerns over previous incidents, including a case of firing at an advocate in Mayur Vihar, where the police allegedly failed to arrest all accused persons. The circular from the SBA cited repeated instances of police officials allegedly delaying action and misbehaving with lawyers while handling complaints. As a result, the association resolved to observe a complete suspension of court work and prevent police entry into the premises on March 20, signaling their protest against what they described as persistent inaction by law enforcement authorities.(With ANI inputs)
