Back-to-back rallies at Brigade Parade ground, which is part of the Maidan — considered to be the lung of the city — has withered and removed the green grassy cover of the sprawling ground exposing its loose top soil to gusty wind of the spring. The loose top soil is now the biggest contributor of the particulate pollution in and around Maidan. People travelling by vehicles along the roads through Maidan or those taking a stroll at Maidan felt that air was so heavy to breathe.
