Village school teachers turn rapists
The two teachers charged with raping girls of the government senior secondary school have been arrested.
CHANDIGARH: They were supposed to be teachers, imparting lessons on ethics and morality. Instead, they turned into monsters, sexually abusing innocent girls whose parents were either too sacred or too ashamed to report the crime.
On Wednesday, however, a hapless father at Durjanpur village gathered the courage to tell the police that his daughter was being raped by her own teachers for months.
The sordid details that tumbled out were like worms out of the woodwork. There was a major sex scandal being enacted in the middle of Durjanpur ��� a small village in the Jat heartland of Jind in Haryana ��� and the entire cluster of residents kept mum, fearing censure from their own.
The two teachers charged with raping girls of the government senior secondary school have been arrested. But what is shocking is that murmurs of the crime had been floating in the village for the last few months.
In an indication that the girls were abused right under the nose of school authorities, a preliminary inquiry by district education department found that school principal Chhotu Ram and six teachers had chosen to look the other way instead of acting against the guilty.
All of them have been suspended as have the main accused Ram Kumar, a maths teacher, and Rameshwar, a physical training instructor.
Eager to let the strong message reach other schools, the remaining teaching staff ��� nine in all ��� have been transferred to the backward Mewat district. Six new teachers have come in so that studies are not affected.
School education commissioner K K Khandelwal told The Times of India that the main accused were suspended on Tuesday, a day before the formal complaint was lodged with the police.
The officer added that the abuse appeared to be widespread and "according to his information", at least six other girls had been sexually exploited by the teachers.
The girl, whose father lodged the FIR, claimed in her statement that the two teachers took turns to sexually abuse her in the classroom during recess.
