Five persons, including two children and a woman, were killed due to an explosion at a firecracker godown-cum-factory here, a police official said on Tuesday, adding the explosion caused damage to nearby houses. Eleven persons sustained injuries in the blast, which occurred in the factory located in the Naushera area under the Shikohabad police station limits on Monday night, they said.

Senior IPS officer Manoj Kumar Verma was made the new commissioner of Kolkata Police on Tuesday, replacing Vineet Goyal, according to a notification. The Taiwanese Ministry of National Defence (MND) reported that from Monday morning at 6am until Tuesday morning at the same time, they observed eight Chinese aircraft, seven naval vessels, and two official ships operating in the vicinity of Taiwan's territory. Out of the eight aircraft belonging to the People's Liberation Army (PLA), four breached the median line that runs through the Taiwan Strait.

In response to the situation, Taiwan stated that they have been closely monitoring the activities and have taken appropriate measures to address the matter. The MND shared this information on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

"8 PLA aircraft, 7 PLAN vessels and 2 official ships operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6 am (UTC+8) today. 4 of the aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait. We have monitored the situation and responded accordingly," the post read.

The city added that the pipeline, owned by utilities company Energy Transfer, "is currently under investigation to determine the cause of the fire."
