According to the Election Commission, Saharanpur recorded a voter turnout of 9.77 per cent till 9 am, Bijnor 10.01 per cent, Rampur 8.37 per cent, Budaun 9.14 per cent, Bareilly 8.36 per cent and Shahjahanpur 9.18 per cent.

Matching 2017 turnout a big challenge

The nine districts which are going to the polls on Monday had witnessed high percentage of polling with 65.8% of average polling. Saharanpur was on top of the pack with 73.09%, followed by Amroha at 72.34%. With the first phase witnessing a marginal fall, it would be a challenge for the election commission, local administration and poll managers of various parties to motivate voters to keep up with the 2017 show.

Do polls happen in Bengal as peacefully? Barbarism was unleashed on BJP workers in the last Bengal Assembly polls. Booths were captured & hundreds were killed. It all happened in Kerala also.
