AMRITSAR: Top brass of Border Security Force (BSF) and Pakistan Rangers are meeting after nearly a gap of two years to accomplish the unfulfilled promises made during their last meeting held in Lahore in 2010. A high-level delegation of Pak Rangers would arrive in India via Attari land border on July 1 to hold a five-day meeting with BSF's director general in Delhi, according to BSF sources.
The two forces had decided to tone down the daily beating the retreat drill and do away with provoking gestures, hold sports matches between jawans of two forces and establishing telephonic contact and sector commandant level, but unfortunately none of the above decisions could be implemented as the scheduled meeting between them in 2011 was cancelled.

Some of the issues which would be discussed during the meeting include, unprovoked firing by Pakistan in Jammu sector, confiscation of fishermen' boats, which was one of the long pending demand of fishermen of both countries who were arrested for fishing in other countries' territorial waters, said sources.
Both countries had also decided to hold regular volleyball or football matches between jawans of two forces to build intra-personal relations. "Both sides had not been able to workout modalities for holding sports matches," said sources.
In the wake of sudden spate of smuggling of fake Indian currency notes, narcotics from Pakistan , the BSF is likely to lodge strong protest and ask Pak Rangers to take preventive measures on their side of the border. Sources informed that the BSF could advise Pak Rangers to educate their border population so that they didn't mistake border fence as an international border.
