The Big Brand B's onward march
MUMBAI: No 63-year-old actor has been or is as central to a film industry as Amitabh Bachchan currently is to Bollywood.
The big names who have their projects riding on his shoulders - Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Karan Johar, Ravi Chopra, Ramgopal Verma - and the big money (it is estimated to be around Rs 250 crore) that goes along with it should be enough to define his status in the film industry.
1x1 polls

With Amitabh, however, there's something more. Look at the ads on TV - he is omnipresent - and consider the mass hysteria that Kaun Banega Crorepati has whipped up a second time over and you start getting a feel of what Brand B is all about.
Combine all this with the fact that the Big B is on the verge of completing one of his most successful years ever (Bunty Aur Babli, Sarkar, Viruddh have all followed up on the supersuccess of Black, Waqt and Baghban) and you know why his presence on the rolls takes producers and directors to a unique comfort zone.

But there are others who feel the hits and the money are just not enough to measure up to the Bachchan height. Trade analyst and film distributor Amod Mehra is one of them: "Bachchan is bigger than all the three Khans put together; one cannot really evaluate his importance in the film industry in terms of money.
He is a living legend and has set an example for all the stars. Not one actor on this planet has been able to make a comeback like Mr Bachchan has done each time he was apparently going down. That is what Amitabh Bachchan is all about."

KBC producer Siddharth Basu, who has now decided to reschedule shooting, says: "The doctors have advised him to rest and we are concerned about his health and wish him a speedy recovery." He was, however, confident that Bachchan would wrap up shooting KBC in a couple of schedules.
Rajkumar Santoshi, due to release Bachchan-starrer The Family, said: "Bachchan has already finished dubbing for half the film. He is very fast in dubbing and I am sure he will finish dubbing for the film in two shifts.

He is the most accommodating actor in the industry and he will never upset any producer's schedule and always make sure that each and everyone is happy. May be that has proved so strenuous. But he is stable."
