'Taliban-style TMC': BJP slams Trinamool MLA; condemns his 'acid attack' remark

NEW DELHI: The BJP on Sunday hit out at Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Abdur Rahim Boxi over his alleged “acid attack” remark, apparently aimed at a BJP legislator from West Bengal.

“Listen to what TMC’s terrorist leader from Malda, Abdur Rahim, is saying. He’s openly threatening acid attacks on BJP MLAs. Maybe they don’t realise that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government weeds out terrorists,” state BJP spokesperson Tushar Kanti Ghosh posted on X, along with a video of the Malatipur MLA’s speech.



"That’s why, when it comes to such Taliban-style TMC members, we know exactly how to deal with them democratically," Ghosh added.

BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari said: "This clearly shows that TMC wants to threaten the people of Bengal who expose their support of infiltrators and Rohingyas for their vote bank... I want to tell Mamata Banerjee that she can do whatever she wants. BJP workers will not bow down, be afraid, or stop, because they believe in PM Modi's development vision".


In the video, Boxi, TMC’s Malda district chief, is heard saying: “One BJP legislator recently described a section of the migrant workers from West Bengal as Rohingyas and Bangladeshi infiltrators. I warn him that I will pour acid down his throat in such a way that his voice will become silent forever.”

He also gave a call to the people to boycott the BJP and destroy the party flags.

The remarks appeared to be directed at BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh, the party’s chief whip in the West Bengal assembly, who had earlier referred to migrant workers from the state as “Bangladeshis” and “Rohingyas.”

On Thursday, Ghosh and four other BJP legislators were suspended from the assembly for repeatedly disrupting a three-day special session called to discuss “attacks on Bengali-speaking migrant workers” in several states, including those ruled by the BJP.

West Bengal is scheduled to hold assembly elections in May 2026, where the Trinamool Congress, led by chief minister Mamata Banerjee, will seek a fourth straight term in power.
