Republic Day 2025 Live Updates: Fly-past, parade, tableaux showcase cultural diversity, military prowess
President Droupadi Murmu lead the nation in celebrating the 76th Republic Day at Kartavya Path, with a special focus on the 75th anniversary of the Constitution’s enactment and the theme of 'Jan Bhagidari' (People's Participation). This year’s celebrations will showcase India’s rich cultural diversity, unity, equality, development, and military strength. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will join as the Chief Guest.
Around 10,000 Special Guests from various sector attended the parade, representing the architects of a 'Swarnim Bharat' (Golden India). The parade, starting at 10:30 am, was preceded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the National War Memorial to honour fallen soldiers. The President’s Bodyguard, the oldest regiment in the Indian Army, escorted the leaders to Kartavya Path in a traditional buggy, marking a 40-year tradition revival.
The parade features a 21-gun salute and musical performances by 300 cultural artists. Notably, Indonesian military contingents participated, along with India’s diverse military units, including the 61 Cavalry, the only active horsed cavalry regiment. Displayed military hardware includes T-90 tanks, BrahMos missiles, and multi-launch systems. A Tri-services tableau illustrated India's defence integration, while veterans and female officers were also honoured.
The Indian Navy highlighted 'Aatmanirbhar' (self-reliant) naval strength, and the Indian Air Force will feature a fly-past with 40 aircraft. DRDO showcased cutting-edge technologies for national security, and a motorcycle display by the 'Dare Devils' will wow the crowd. The ceremony will end with the national anthem and the release of balloons symbolising 75 years of the Constitution.

India, Indonesia share values of pluralism and inclusiveness, says President Murmu
President Droupadi Murmu, reflecting on the longstanding ties between India and Indonesia, highlighted the shared principles of "pluralism, inclusiveness, and the rule of law" that have shaped both nations' contemporary relations. Speaking at a special banquet hosted at Rashtrapati Bhavan in honour of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, President Murmu welcomed him on his first State Visit to India. She noted that these shared values have guided both countries' diplomatic paths and strengthened their bond.
Recalling the deep civilisational connections between India and Indonesia, she reminded guests that 75 years ago, Indonesian President Sukarno was the Chief Guest at India's first Republic Day in 1950. This moment, she said, reflected the enduring democratic traditions shared by both nations.
Additionally, President Murmu underscored Indonesia’s pivotal role in India’s 'Act East' policy and Indo-Pacific Vision. She also mentioned the 'Bali Jatra' in Odisha, celebrating ancient maritime ties between India and Indonesia.

This Republic Day, at least 30 villages in Bastar, once strongholds of Maoists, will witness the unfurling of the national flag for the first time in over two decades. These villages, formerly controlled by Hidma's PLGA Battalion 1, will celebrate Republic Day instead of seeing the black flags of the insurgents. Bastar range IG P Sundarraj confirmed that 14 new security camps have been established across Bijapur, Sukma, and Narayanpur districts.
The Tarrem and Pamed regions, long under the influence of the PLGA, now host multiple security camps. Many villages, previously inaccessible, now have roads suitable for security forces. The 45 km Tarrem-Pamed stretch, once a Maoist stronghold, is gradually being transformed. Last year, the national flag was hoisted in Puvarti, Hidma's native village, marking a significant blow to the insurgents.

During his first state visit to India, Subianto expressed his pride in being in India and shared his admiration for Modi’s approach to governance. Speaking at a special banquet, Subianto stated, “I am not a professional politician or a diplomat, but I say what’s in my heart. I’ve learned a lot from Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, particularly his commitment to helping the poorest and most vulnerable.”
He also wished India prosperity, peace, and greatness in the future, emphasizing the importance of strengthening the partnership between Indonesia and India. President Murmu approves gallantry awards for 93 personnel
On the eve of India's 76th Republic Day, President Droupadi Murmu approved gallantry awards for 93 Armed Forces and Central Armed Police Forces personnel, including 11 posthumous awards. These honours include two Kirti Chakras (one posthumous), 14 Shaurya Chakras (three posthumous), and 66 Sena Medals (seven posthumous). Additionally, 58 personnel will receive Mentioned-in-Despatches, including four posthumous awards.
The awards recognise exceptional acts of bravery during various operations, such as Operation Rakshak, Snow Leopard, Hifazat, Sahayata, and more. Notable recipients include Major Manjit and Naik Dilwar Khan (Posthumous), who will be awarded the Kirti Chakra, and 14 individuals, including Major Ashish Dahiya, Captain Deepak Singh (Posthumous), and others, who will receive the Shaurya Chakra.
Moreover, the President has approved 305 defence decorations, including Param Vishisht Seva Medals, Yudh Seva Medals, and various others for distinguished service.
