So, when the Rajasthan results poured in on Sunday afternoon and delivered Congress a drubbing, it likely served as a bitter-sweet moment for the "rebel".

Vasundhara Raje's return to prominence in Rajasthan politics at 70 isn't just another sidelight in a famous BJP victory. On Sunday, Raje retained the Jhalrapatan seat by a margin of 53,000-odd votes, while two of her primary opponents within the party - leader of the opposition Rajendra Rathore and deputy leader Satish Poonia- were defeated.

The BJP wrested Rajasthan on Sunday, winning 115 seats out of the 199 where polling took place as the Congress failed to buck the state's three-decade revolving-door trend in which the voters reject the party in power. The Congress won from 69 seats. A slew of welfare schemes introduced by the Ashok Gehlot government in the run-up to the November 25 assembly polls fell flat before the aggressive BJP campaign, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In the five districts of Bharatpur, Karauli, Sawai madhopur, Dholpur and Dausa in eastern Rajasthan, the party bagged 13 seats, while the Congress got eight and the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) and the BSP one each. An independent candidate also won.

The BJP's assembly seat tally in five eastern Rajasthan districts went up from just one to 13, while the Congress' fell from 20 to eight. The Congress had made the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP) a poll issue in the region.

Escalating his attack on Gehlot, the officer on special duty (OSD) accused him of cheating the high command, not allowing correct feedback to reach the top, not allowing anyone to become an alternative, continuously taking wrong decisions and decisions out of narcissism while being surrounded by immature and selfish people, and ignoring all feedback and surveys.

Outgoing Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's OSD Lokesh Sharma on Sunday blamed him for the defeat in the assembly polls and said that his experience, magic and schemes could not bring the Congress back to power in the state.

The BJP cruised to a massive victory in Rajasthan on Sunday after winning 115 seats, comfortably crossing the 100-seat majority mark.

Girraj Singh Malinga, sitting MLA from Bari who switched over to BJP from the Congress, lost the seat to Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate Jaswant Singh Gurjar by a margin of 27,424 votes.

In a post on X, Gehlot said, "We humbly accept the mandate given by the people of Rajasthan. This is an unexpected result for everyone. This defeat shows that we were not completely successful in taking our plans, laws and innovations to the public."
