Puducherry's second chief minister, Congress' Venkatasubba Reddiar was in office from September 1964 to April 1967 and March-Spetmeber 1968.

Puducherry's seventh chief minister, Janakiraman held the post from May 1996-March 2000 in the DMK-led government.

A Congress stalwart, P Shanmugam was the Union territory's chief minister from March 2000 to May 2001 and May 2001 to October 2001.

N Rangasamy, the incumbent chief minister, is a four-term CM. In his first two terms (October 2001-May 2006; May 2006-September 2008) he held the post as Congress leader. His third stint was from May 2011 to June 2016 as the leader of All India NR Congress, which he founded, as well the current one (May 2021-).

Congress leader V Narayanasamy served as Puducherry's 10th chief minister from June 2016-February 2021,
