NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday hit out at the Congress for questioning the timing of Operation Mahadev, in which three top Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists linked to the deadly Pahalgam attack were neutralised. Addressing the Lok Sabha during the ongoing debate on Operation Sindoor, PM Modi accused the opposition of sinking into “desperation and negativity.”"Out of desperation, Congress even questioned the timing of Operation Mahadev that killed perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack on Monday," PM Modi said. Mocking the opposition’s line of questioning, he added, “Akhir kal kyun hua? Kya Sawan ke mahine ka somvaar dhoondha? Hatasha nirasha is had tak? Ab hua to kal kyun hua? Kya haal ho gaya hai inka?” (Translation: Why yesterday? Did they look for a Monday in the holy month of Sawan? Such deep despair and hopelessness—have they really fallen to this level?)The anti-terror Operation Mahadev was carried out in the Lidwas area of Jammu and Kashmir in a joint effort by the Indian Army, CRPF, and Jammu and Kashmir Police. Notably, its onset coincided with the beginning of the Operation Sindoor discussion in Lok Sabha on Monday.According to Union home minister Amit Shah’s address in Parliament, three top LeT terrorists, Suleman alias Faizal, Afghan, and Jibran, were killed. All were classified as A-category operatives and were directly involved in the April 22 attack on civilians in the Baisaran valley of Pahalgam.“The people who used to supply them with food were detained earlier.
Once the bodies were brought to Srinagar, those detainees identified the terrorists,” Shah informed the House.Praising Shah's detailed briefing, PM Modi later posted on X that Operation Mahadev and Operation Sindoor had played a crucial role in eliminating “cowardly terrorists,” and added that these missions showcased the government’s firm resolve to ensure national security. In his speech, the PM also reiterated that no global leader had urged India to halt its anti-terror operations, underlining that India would continue to act decisively against cross-border terrorism.
