His family says he suffered a severe heatstroke, which later caused multiple organs to fail. After fighting for his life in the hospital for weeks, Joshua sadly passed away on Saturday, July 27. His mom got a call shortly after dropping him off, saying that he was unresponsive. He was taken to a nearby hospital, sadly, his condition got worse and he never recovered.

Kristen Henderson, Joshua’s aunt, told ABC News that he had passed out at football practice on the morning of Saturday, July 6, in Arlington, Tennessee. He was practicing with his high school team, where he played on both the offensive and defensive line. Kristen said his mom was quickly called after he collapsed. She rushed to the field, and Joshua was taken to the hospital soon after.
He stayed in the hospital for three weeks, trying to recover, but passed away on Saturday, July 27. His family said the cause was “complications from organ failure caused by a severe heat stroke.”
They shared a message on GoFundMe, writing, “Joshua bravely fought for his life in the hospital.”The school district, Memphis-Shelby County Schools, shared a public message on July 29. Kristen Henderson says Joshua dreamed of playing college football and studying engineering

Joshua was about to start his senior year at Bolton High School this fall. Kristen said he had big dreams. “He wanted to go to the University of Florida on a football scholarship and study engineering,” she said. “He was being scouted by universities already.”She also called him a “gentle giant” and said he was loved deeply by everyone in his life. The school has arranged for grief counselors and support staff to help students and teachers.According to the CDC, heat is the deadliest weather danger in the U.S. Over 150 heat-related deaths have already been reported in 2025.
