Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav passed away on Monday morning at a Gurugram hospital after prolonged illness. The 82-year-old had been hospitalised since August. Yadav spawned UP's most prominent political clan. He was elected an MLA 10 times and an MP seven times. He also served as the defence minister, and thrice as the UP CM. Nepal Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Tuesday condoled the demise of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, hailing him as an eminent socialist leader who "touched the lives of many in India and beyond." He had also served as the defence minister, passed away aged 82 after prolonged illness at a private hospital in Gurugram on Monday.

Businessman Anil Ambani, Yadav's brother and Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia) founder Shivpal Yadav, senior Uttar Pradesh Congress leader Pramod Tiwari, NCP leader Supriya Sule, Rashtriya Lok Dal chief Jayant Chaudhary, farmer leader Rakesh Tikait, and senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh were present as the three-time chief minister was to consigned to flames.
