Metiaburuz election result 2026: TMC's Abdul Khaleque Molla wins against BJP's Bir Bahadur Singh

Abdul Khaleque Molla of the All India Trinamool Congress won the Metiaburuz constituency with 1,24,230 votes, defeating BJP candidate Bir Bahadur Singh by a margin of 87,879 votes. Singh secured 36,351 votes. CPI(M)'s Monirul Islam finished third with 9,567 votes, followed by Congress's Md Mukhtar with 6,441 votes.

Eleven candidates contested from Metiaburuz in West Bengal's 2026 Assembly Election: Abdul Khaleque Molla (TMC), Bir Bahadur Singh (BJP), Monirul Islam (CPI(M)), Md Mukhtar (Congress), Mahabbat Khan (Independent), Sk Monirul Islam (Independent), Ram Ramishwar (BSP), Rina Adhikari Roy (SUCI(C)), Ahmed Ali Molla (Independent), Rafiqul Islam Gazi (IUML), and Ajaz Ahmed Ansari (Aam Janata Unnayan Party). NOTA recorded 1,685 votes.

Metiaburuz is a Kolkata district constituency under the Kolkata Dakshin Lok Sabha constituency, situated in the southwesternmost part of the city along the Hooghly river. It is historically one of Kolkata's most Muslim-dominated constituencies, with a culture deeply influenced by the legacy of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah, the last Nawab of Awadh, who lived in exile here in the 19th century.

In 2021, TMC held the Metiaburuz seat comfortably, polling strongly among its Muslim-majority electorate. The constituency has been firmly in the TMC column since the party came to power in 2011, and the party consistently polls above 50 per cent in this urban seat.

In 2016, TMC again held the constituency without much difficulty, reflecting the party's deep roots in minority-dominated urban seats across Kolkata. The seat's unique cultural heritage — mosques, imambargahs, and the legacy of Awadhi culture — makes it distinct within Kolkata. Economic concerns revolve around small-scale trade, craftsmanship, and daily wage work.
