CHENNAI: Now improving your English vocabulary is child’s play. The US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs launched a website to provide American English resources for school students studying English as a foreign language on Wednesday.
One of the major attractions on the website is Trace Effects, a three-dimensional interactive online video game that encourages children between 12 and 16 years to explore the English language and American culture by taking the player to cities and locations across the US.
Visitors to www.americanenglish.state.gov can pit their knowledge of America and the linguistics against one another in four mini-games online. The video game has been designed by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
The website provides free materials and resources for students of English, teachers’ professional development, and resources to use in the classroom in other formats as well. A release from the US Consulate said that the new website would make it easy for teachers and students to find and share materials and resources, including teacher training publications, activity ideas, books, and songs.
American English also provides access to information to the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs exchange programs and educational opportunities in the United States, as well as firsthand accounts from previous participants to help find the right program for those interested in participating in an educational exchange.
