Law secy denies charges of telephonic conversation with CBI accused
NEW DELHI: Law secretary Suresh Chandra on Monday denied he ever spoke to CBI accused Sana Satish Babu or having known him or the IAS officer Rekha Rani who apparently set up an appointment for him with Sana to have a telephonic conversation from
Filing an appeal in the Supreme Court on Monday, CBI DIG MK Sinha claimed that Chandra had spoken to Sana, an accused in the Moin Qureshi case, on WhatsApp call from London after Andhra cadre IAS Rekha Rani passed his number to Sana.
“I have only visited London once in July this year and never before or after,” Chandra told TOI rejecting the claims made by Sinha in his petition to SC. Chandra said he was not in London on the dates referred to in the plea.
The law secretary further said that he has filed seven-page response to the law minister as a rebuttal to all claims made in the petition. He further said that he had no inkling why his name has been dragged in the controversy as he had never dealt with either the Nirav Modi case or the Moin Qureshi case that the CBI is investigating.
Chandra was appointed law secretary in 2016 and is set to retire later this month. Sinha said that Sana had spoken to the law secretary on 8th November when the former assured him that all his “future problems will be taken care of” and that he was talking to convey the message of the cabinet secretary.
Chandra said he has also briefed the attorney general on the case and required legal action will be taken.
