Kamal Haasan has taken the political plunge. He is set to undertake a tour of the state to understand people's problems in the month of January, he said on Tuesday, on his 63rd birthday.
Branding himself as 'Citizen K' (Kamal Haasan), he said, "I will be touring TN, not as an artist, but as
citizen K
. I will give the party a name after meeting the people."
The actor, who is laying the foundation for his soonto-be launched party, announced a mobile app 'Maiam-Whistle', which, he said, will be an e-vigil tool for citizens to report and alert on problems and issues, as well as evils faced by them in the society and state. Haasan said members of the general public and media can make use of the app and be the whistle blowers on corruption.
Alleging that the whistleblowers in the media have been silenced, Kamal said he wanted to strengthen the voice of truth. The app is undergoing tests and will be launched in January.
"Everybody has this regret over things going wrong continuously, unstoppably," said Haasan. To give a visual reference, the actor said that he looked at the Ashoka Chakra on the national flag as the virtuous cycle of the nation. "If you do one good deed, it sows the seeds for more good deeds, forming a virtuous cycle. There is virtue in people's hearts but it has not translated into action." This cycle, he said, has been poisoned and turned into a vicious cycle. "Our dream is to make it virtuous again," he said.
