The
Indian Space Research Organisation is ready to give Kerala government satellite images of Sabarimala to prevent a repeat of the January 14 stampede that killed 102 pilgrims, organisation chairman
R Radhakrishnan said on Monday.
Radhakrishnan said the three-dimensional images will help planners improve infrastructure at the hill shrine in Kerala’s Idukki district. "To avert such disasters in future, we are ready to provide three dimensional pictures to the state government.
The pictures could provide a clear view of each and every landscape,"he said.
Kerala minister of religious endowments Kadannappalli Ramachandran welcomed the offer and said: "Controlling such a large crowd is not easy. Scientific studies have to be done to address the problems of the pilgrims."
The space agency has prepared a databank and photographed 200 districts with support from the Central government, he said. It will expand this operation to other parts of the country. Satellite Centre director T K Alex said such images would help in building roads at Sabarimala, renovate shelters and make arrangements for pilgrims.
