Indrani, Khanna used to meet in Kolkata clubs

MUMBAI: Indrani Mukerjea and her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna seem to have continued exchanges though Khanna had told TOI minutes before his arrest he had been dumped by Indrani and deprived of his own daughter. Even after Sheena Bora’s murder, the two were seen several times in Kolkata.
Sources in the city claim Indrani visited Kolkata a couple of times since 2012.She stayed away from the public eye and avoided Khanna’s mother’s 75th birthday in February last year for which Vidhie had visited the family in Hastings, but was seen with husband Peter Mukerjea on business two years ago when they dined with a former top cop.
Indrani was seen in Kolkata again sometime in the winter of late 2014 or early 2015, said the sources. On this solo trip, she stayed at a five-star property off Eastern Metropolitan Bypass. On another occasion, she was seen with Khanna at the CC&FC club, their favourite hangout. “Sanjeev was seen taking her around and introducing her to some of the people sitting in the lawns. He was happily and proudly showing her off,” said a club friend.

One of Khanna’s club friends recalled how “Indrani had dumped Sanjeev and he had never really recovered from that shock. He wasn’t the same person after his marriage broke. Very often he would break down talking about his daughter Vidhie”.
Asked if Khanna showed signs of profits from his role in the crime, those who have seen him from close quarters said “if he did, it did not show. He led a fairly simple life and enjoyed his Old Monk and cheap cigarettes”.
On hindsight, there is a possibility Khanna consciously kept things down. “Sometime this July, he mentioned spending over Rs 25,000 every month at CC&FC as a reason why he should be allowed to stand for elections. It came as a surprise to us as we all know that he was a bit down in between and had been a defaulter at the club,” said a member.
