India's brave soldiers made Pakistan bow under pressure: Sumitra Mahajan
INDORE: Hailing India's efforts in bringing back
Talking to reporters here, she also said
"It is for the first time in the history of our country that an Indian soldier is returning from Pakistan in such a way. We can understand that our brave soldiers made Pakistan bow and act under pressure."
She also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for Varthaman's release.
"No political meaning should be drawn from my statement. But the relationship that by our prime minister built with America and our neighbouring countries in the past few years, is working in our favour today. Several countries supported us (in Varathaman's release)," she said.
"Our diplomacy, strategy, politics and public policies worked together. Besides that, the people of the country also stood united," the speaker said.
Responding to a question on Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's role in Varthaman's release, Mahajan said, "I do not want to immediately make any comment about him. But as a former cricketer, he really possesses sportsman's spirit and I wish that he carries out his political duties in the same spirit."
Before talking to reporters, Mahajan inaugurated a polyclinic, constructed under the Centre's Ex-servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) in Prabhu Nagar area here. This unit will provide medical facilities to more than 5,000 ex-servicemen and their families living in the city.

This is an abomination to say the least. This entire so-called surgical strike has been an utter failure by any yardstick of measurement. Nothing has been achieved apart from a seizing the lost opportunity to not letting a crisis go waste and to make full political use of it for electioneering. Other than destruction of a few sheds in the remote Pak-Afghan border, two lost aircrafts, one captured Indian officer and loss of six lives, nothing has been achieved that can be even remotely considered to be a success. In fact, Pakistan for once, has shown a far greater degree of optimism, political and military resolve and a laudable degree of maturity in treating the captured Indian officer with exceptional grace and hospitality (in the words of the captured officer himself). I see absolutely no reason why this entire incident is being blown completely out of proportion. There are hundreds of examples of greater courage and valour in the Indian armed forces and this story is nothing in comparison. This is a story of failure.....downed aircraft, failure to escape, capture and detention, and last of all, a dignified hand-over without a fight. This is the least combination of anything that can generate as much national adulation as it has. Everyone has blown this out of proportion and there is no voice to tell people that this is nowhere even near to what can represent a badge of courage and valour. Was there even a fraction of national fervour for the poor CRPF personnel who were blown up by the attack in Pulwama. It is so mind-boggling to see no collective effort by the people to praise the men who gave up their lives in action and simultaneously see them gear up in absolute servility to treat the case of the returned soldier as the epitome of courage and valour. Has even a single CRPF received a fraction of the adulation and respect as this downed airman has!Read allPost comment
