Hawkers' protest in Mumbai

Dayashankar Singh, president of the Azad Hawkers Union, passionately addressed the protesters. He spoke about the challenges faced by both legal and illegal hawkers, calling for fair treatment and proper hearings.

Protesters held up banners and placards with messages demanding fair treatment and the right to work. The placards, with slogans and heartfelt appeals, emphasised their plight and the necessity for proper regulation.

Former MP Sanjay Nirupam supported the hawkers, showing solidarity and speaking out against the BMC's actions. He criticised the lack of implementation of The Street Vendors Act, 2014, and called for a more just approach.

Women hawkers prominently participated in the protest and highlighted the gender dimension of the issue. Their involvement underscored the broader social and economic impact of the eviction drive on families and communities.
