NEW DELHI: In Assam’s Golaghat (Assembly Constituency 103), the verdict was emphatic, with Ajanta Neog of the Bharatiya Janata Party registering a landslide victory. Polling 1,02,212 votes, Neog defeated Bitupan Saikia of the Indian National Congress by a massive margin of 43,759 votes, underscoring the BJP’s deepening hold in the region.
The scale of the win reflects both a strong personal mandate for Neog and the party’s organisational strength on the ground. Other contenders, including Independent candidate Rubul Borah, remained marginal in the contest, with minimal vote shares, while NOTA too saw limited traction. The result mirrors the broader trend across Assam, where the BJP has not only retained its base but significantly widened the gap over the opposition.
There were a total of 201387 registered voters on the electoral rolls for the 2026 Assembly election in Golaghat Assembly constituency, of whom 99458 were male, 101927 female and 2 belonged to the third gender.
Exit polls released on Wednesday evening for the high-stakes Assam battle indicate a clear majority for the incumbent Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government, with most pollsters favouring the BJP to secure a third consecutive term in the tea-producing state.
Golaghat Assembly constituency is a general category seat located in Golaghat district of Assam.
Following the final delimitation order issued in August 2023, the constituency now falls under the newly formed Kaziranga Parliamentary constituency. Earlier, it was part of the Kaliabor Lok Sabha seat, which was abolished during the exercise.
In the 2021 Assam Assembly elections, the constituency had 2,05,586 registered voters, with 1,61,284 valid votes cast.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Ajanta Neog won the seat with 81,651 votes. Congress candidate Bitupan Saikia finished second with 72,326 votes, losing by a margin of 9,325 votes.
In the 2016 Assembly elections, Golaghat had 1,75,488 electors, with 1,47,225 valid votes recorded.
Congress candidate Ajanta Neog won the seat with 73,862 votes, defeating BJP candidate Bitupan Saikia, who secured 68,649 votes. The victory margin was 5,213 votes.
