KOLKATA: ED on Friday attached assets worth about Rs 3.6 crore of West Bengal's minister for correctional administration Chandranath Sinha over the school cash-for-jobs scam. Sources said around 10 properties, including residential homes, flats, land and a market, in the names of Sinha, his wife, and his son, were attached.
Earlier, ED had found a diary belonging to accused Kuntal Ghosh containing over 100 names, including that of Sinha. This led to searches at the minister's residence in Bolpur. ED officers seized several documents and about Rs 41 lakh in cash.
The agency said neither Sinha nor his family could explain the source of the money. Sinha's wife Kuntala, in her statement, said their income was from agricultural activity and a construction business. However, she said she did not have any idea about the cash.
ED filed a chargesheet against Sinha six months ago. On Sept 6, 2025, he surrendered. The court granted him bail.
