Disabled woman beaten to death for plucking fruit

Tragedy struck in Bulandshahr when a 30-year-old disabled woman, Sunita Devi, was allegedly beaten to death by her neighbors over a dispute about water chestnuts. Devi's husband, Omkar Singh, claims his wife was attacked while returning home from collecting the fruit. He alleges police ignored his pleas for help when he brought his injured wife to the station.

MEERUT: A 30-year-old disabled woman was allegedly beaten to death by her neighbours for plucking water chestnuts from their garden in Bulandshahr, police said on Monday.
Sunita Devi was returning home after collecting the fruit on Nov 8 when a group of women confronted her and thrashed her with sticks. She sustained serious wounds to her head, according to her husband Omkar Singh.Omkar claimed that when he took his injured wife to the local police station, officers allegedly ignored his pleas for help.
Vikas Pratap Chauhan, circle officer of Shikarpur, said, “An FIR under BNS section 103 was registered against Manju Devi, 40, and her niece Kirti Kumar, 21. They have been arrested, while third accused, Manju’s nephew, is a minor.”
