Did Lucifer tempt them to delete 'not'?
AIZAWL: A well-circulated hymn book which turned one of the Cardinal Sins in Christianity on its head, has most of Mizoram seething in rage. "Lead us not into temptation and deliver us from evil," is what generations of Christians have been taught to repeat in their prayers but a printing error in the latest version of a widely read Mizo hymnary book reads: "Lead us into temptation."
More than 90% of Mizoram follows Christianity, but try telling them that to err is human and to forgive divine.

"They should not have marketed it at all. The error is serious. It has changed the entire nature of God''s providence," fumed Zodinsanga, a Presbyterian church member in Aizawl.
The Synod Press, an official organ of Mizoram''s biggest church, the Presbyterian Synod of Mizoram, which made the printing error is now running from pillar to post, trying to defend itself. But with over 60,000 copies of the book — printed by the Swapna Printing Works (P) Ltd in Kolkata — sold out in a single day, the damage has already been done. What was worse, the book titled Kristian Hla Bu became a bestseller the week it was released.
Romawia, a member of the Mizoram Synod Music Committee, who did the proofreading and sampling, had an amazing story to tell though. The error, he said, could have been due to loss of computer data.
"We did crosscheck the copy a number of times before sending it to the press... it is really odd. The error could be due to loss of certain data in the computer," Romawia said, desperately trying to pass the buck — to a computer.
The finished matter was loaded into a compact disc and sent to Swapna Printers but only after the Music Committee of the Mizoram Synod did a thorough sampling, he added. Printing of another 70,000 copies has been stalled after the error was detected.
The Kristian Hla Bu, an anthology of 600 hymns, is jointly published by two of the largest churches in Mizoram, the Mizoram Presbyterian Church and Mizoram Baptist Church. There have been 18 editions of the book so far. Experts are now going through some of the earlier editions to see if they can spot any more bloomers.
