Coronavirus live updates: Maharashtra reports 47,288 new Covid-19 cases

India recorded an all-time high of 1,03,558 coronavirus infections in a day pushing the nationwide Covid-19 tally to 1,25,89,067, according to the Union health ministry data updated on Monday. The single-day rise in cases surpassed the earlier peak of 97,894 infections reported on September 17, last year, making it the highest since the pandemic began in India. Eight states account for over 80 per cent of new Covid-19 cases, reports PTI.
Eight states including Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat account for 80.96 per cent of the 93,249 new daily Covid-19 cases, according to the Union health ministry. India is seeing a steep intensification in the doubling time of the Covid-19 cases. As of April 4, it is 115.4 days, the ministry said on Sunday.

BMC additional commissioner Suresh Kakani said that although cases in the city were over 9,000, the mortality is still low. “With 27 deaths, the mortality rate for the day is less than 0.27. We are alert. All our major hospitals have been told to make more beds available for Covid care and take note of the time taken from appearance of symptoms to admission and work on it,” he said.

Singapore joining Interpol-led crime task force to look into Covid-19-related scams (PTI)
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said Singapore is joining the task force due to a need for greater international cooperation against the rising threat of cyber fraud globally, Channel News Asia (CNA) reported. “The situation has visibly worsened during the COVID-19 pandemic with more people working from home and transacting online,” an MHA spokesperson said in response to queries from the CNA.
