Coronavirus live updates: Maharashtra reports 960 Covid deaths, highest so far
India recorded 3,26,098 new cases and 3,890 fatalities on Saturday, as per Covid data collated from state government figures. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 31,30,17,193 samples were tested for Covid-19 up to May 14, 2021. Of these, 16,93,093 samples were tested yesterday. WHO urges rich countries to donate shots instead of vaccinating children
The World Health Organization urged rich countries on Friday to reconsider plans to vaccinate children and instead donate COVID-19 shots to the COVAX scheme for poorer countries. "I understand why some countries want to vaccinate their children and adolescents, but right now I urge them to reconsider and to instead donate vaccines to COVAX," WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told a virtual meeting in Geneva.

An analysis of Covid deaths this year in Maharashtra has found a decline of over 60% in case fatality rates (CFR) across age brackets despite a 44% rise in the caseload compared to last year. The only exception are fatalities in children below 10 years which are at nearly the same rate for both 2020 and 2021.
