Coronavirus live updates: Centre reviews preparedness of 5 states in Eastern India
A record 3,780 fresh Covid-19 fatalities were registered in a single day in India taking the death toll to 2,26,188, while 3,82,315 new coronavirus infections were recorded, according to the Union health ministry data updated on Wednesday. ICMR issues fresh advisory on Covid testing: Key points
The Indian Council of Medical Research on Tuesday issued fresh guidelines for testing amid an unprecedented rise in Covid-19 cases in the country. "At present, the laboratories are facing challenges to meet the expected testing target due to extraordinary case load and staff getting infected with Covid-19. In view of this situation, it is imperative to optimize the RTPCR testing and simultaneously increase the access and availability of testing to all citizens of the country," it said in a statement.

A day after Patna high court virtually warned the Bihar government to take a decision on enforcing lockdown, Nitish Kumar-led coalition government on Tuesday decided to enforce complete lockdown across the state till May 15. The 11-day long lockdown will come into force from May 5 (Wednesday).

A strict lockdown should be imposed in areas where the Covid-19 case positivity rate is over 10 per cent or the bed occupancy is above 60 per cent, AIIMS Director Dr Randeep Guleria said on Tuesday, while stressing that clamping such restrictions all over the country cannot be a solution, keeping in mind people's livelihood.

The Assam government on Tuesday advanced the night curfew to 6pm from the current 8pm with restrictions imposed on the movement of people at public places from Wednesday, to contain the surge of Covid-19 cases. Chief secretary Jishnu Baruah who is also the chairperson of Assam State Disaster Authority issued the order after reviewing the prevailing Covid-19 situation in the state.
