LUCKNOW: In a numbing tragedy of errors, Dilip Gautam, the only son of pharmacist Om Prakash, who had killed himself on June 14 after the CPMT results showed that he had failed his exam, was declared successful in the corrected version released on Thursday by Poorvanchal University under the aegis of which the pre-medical tests were held. Following reports of gross irregularities committed in the CPMT results, the UP government, which had earlier set up a committee to probe the scandal, recommended to governor T V Rajeshwar, the sacking of Poorvanchal University vice chairman K P Singh.
Preempting the government's move, the controversial V-C tried to win some points by announcing his resignation from the post owning moral responsibility. While the V-C did this soon after the revised CPMT results were made public on Thursday morning, UP cabinet secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh stated the government's decision later in the evening.
