NEW DELHI: A passenger has been booked for allegedly smoking a beedi inside the lavatory of a Delhi-Goa flight, police said on Sunday.
The incident occurred on Saturday when the accused, identified as Ashish, a Delhi resident, was travelling on an Akasa Air flight from the national capital to Goa, reported PTI.
In a statement, the airline said, “A passenger travelling on Akasa Air flight QP1625 from Delhi to Goa on 7th March 2026 was found smoking in the aircraft lavatory. In line with established safety and regulatory procedures and applicable law, our crew followed the required protocols and the individual was handed over to the appropriate authorities upon arrival in Goa."
"Akasa Air maintains a zero-tolerance approach towards any behaviour that compromises the safety and wellbeing of passengers and crew, and we are extending our full cooperation to the authorities in relation to this matter,” the airline added.
According to police, the passenger was also found carrying a lighter and the act endangered the safety of fellow passengers and crew members during the flight. Following a complaint by the airlines, a case was registered against the passenger at the Mopa airport police station.
Officials said the case has been filed under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita as well as the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against Safety of Civil Aviation Act.
Further investigation into the incident is underway, police said.
