Days after announcing its candidate in Uttar Pradesh’s Karhal, from where Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav is fighting his first assembly elections, the Congress has decided to withdraw from the contest. The Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded Rajeshwar Singh, the former joint director of ED, from Sarojininagar seat of Lucknow, denying a ticket to minister Swati Singh. The party's eighth list with 17 names, released on Tuesday, has a couple of more surprises.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami slammed Congress on Tuesday by questioning the work carried out in the states ruled by them and said that opposition leaders and their agendas will vanish after the elections. "Those who are standing in our opposition are not going to be seen after the elections, nor will their agenda be visible. Today they have governments in Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan. Have they been able to make gas cylinders cheaper there? Has everyone been given employment there?" said Dhami.
The Election Commission (EC) appointed 15 special observers, including five special general observers, five special police observers and five special expenditure observers, to oversee the conduct of assembly polls in five states.
BJP announced list of 17 candidates, no mention of Hriday Narain Dikshit, Swati Singh
The BJP on Tuesday announced a list of 17 candidates for the Uttar Pradesh polls and did not include Assembly Speaker Hriday Narain Dikshit and minister Swati Singh in it while Brijesh Pathak's seat was changed. The names announced on Tuesday included candidates for all the nine Assembly seats in Lucknow. Ashutosh Shukla has been fielded from Bhagwantnagar in Unnao district where Hriday Narain Dikshit is the outgoing MLA.

Manipur assembly polls: Shiv Sena fields ex-deputy speaker; NPP names 13 more candidates
The Shiv Sena on Tuesday said it nominated former deputy speaker of Manipur assembly T Thangzalam Haokip for the upcoming state election. Haokip's names featured in the second list of the Shiv Sena which was released during the day. He will contest from the Henglep constituency in Churachandpur district. He was earlier a member of the BJP.The Shiv Sena's second list contained one more candidate, Toijam Debananda Singh, who was nominated for the Keirao seat.

The Samajwadi Party on Tuesday announced 10 candidates for the ongoing UP Assembly elections including for Lucknow Cantonment seat from which Aparna Yadav -- the younger daughter-in-law of party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav -- had unsuccessfully contested in 2017. The SP has given ticket to Pooja Shukla from Lucknow North and Raju Gandhi from the Cantt seat.

Ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, chief minister Yogi Adityanath, while addressing a rally in Ghaziabad, promised that the BJP government in UP would provide double dose ration every month to every household. "Just like a free double dose vaccination, the BJP government would also provide you people with free double dose ration every month", said Yogi Adityanath.
Sitting Congress MLA from Nawanshahr in Punjab, Angad Saini, who filed nomination papers as an independent candidate after being denied ticket by the party, has been issued notice for alleged poll code violation by the Returning Officer here.
