NEW DELHI: Assam senior
Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP Pradyut Bordoloi on Tuesday resigned from the party just 20 days, ahead of the state assembly elections.
Bordoloi submitted his resignation to AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, party sources told PTI.
In his brief, one-line resignation letter addressed to Kharge, Bordoloi wrote, "With an overwhelming sense of sadness today, I hereby tender my resignation from all posts, privileges and the primary membership of the
Indian National Congress."
A former Assam cabinet minister and a two-time MP from the Nagaon constituency, Bordoloi is a senior Congress leader in the state.
His son is currently contesting the upcoming assembly elections as a Congress candidate from the Margherita seat, where voting is scheduled for April 9.
Following the development, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee chief Gaurav Gogoi said that, "I have come after talking to him, and I condemn the kind of things that are coming out in the media."
