Four children injured as firecracker explodes during child birth celebration in UP's Sultanpur
Four children were injured after a firecracker exploded during celebrations over the birth of a child in Sultanpur district, police said on Sunday.

A family was celebrating the recent birth of a child in Narayanpur village under the Kotwali Nagar police station area by bursting firecrackers. One of the crackers fell on gravel and exploded, causing debris to fly and hit four children standing nearby.

Circle Officer Saurabh Samant said the impact of the blast caused gravel pieces to scatter, injuring the children in their legs.

The injured were rushed to the district hospital. After primary treatment, two of the injured — Raghavendra Singh (10) from Payagipur and Mohammad Subhan (17) from Narayanpur — were referred to a government medical college. The other two injured, Harsh (5) and Yash (10), both residents of Narayanpur, were discharged after treatment.

After the incident, police conducted a raid at a firecracker trader's premises in Pratapganj market on the directions of SP Charu Nigam. A large quantity of illegal explosive material was seized, and further legal action is underway.

Three members of a family killed as tanker rams motorcycle in UP's Gonda

Three members of a family, including a minor, were killed after an uncontrolled tanker rammed into their motorcycle here on Sunday, police said.

The accident occurred on the Ayodhya-Gonda road in the Nawabganj police station area when the victims were on their way to attend a wedding ceremony in Bahraich.

SHO Abhay Singh said Man Singh (43), a resident of Basti district, was travelling on a motorcycle with his wife Urmila (40) and their son Lavkush (13). Around noon, near Kanakpur village, a speeding tanker coming from behind hit the motorcycle. All three fell on the road and were run over by the vehicle.

Urmila and Lavkush died on the spot, while Man Singh, who was critically injured, was taken to a community health centre where he later died.

The tanker driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. Efforts are on to trace him. Man Singh was a farmer and the sole breadwinner; he is survived by his elder son Rajkumar (16).

Narcotics smuggling network busted in Amritsar; three held with 12 kg heroin
Punjab Police's Counter Intelligence wing in Amritsar has busted a narcotics smuggling module with the arrest of three operatives and recovery of 12 kg heroin.

Those arrested have been identified as Gurjant Singh, Arvinder Singh and Jashanpreet Singh, all residents of Tarn Taran district. Police have also impounded their motorcycle allegedly used for transporting the consignment.

Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigation has revealed that Gurjant was in contact with a Pakistan-based smuggler. Gurjant would receive heroin consignments delivered by drones from across the border around his village and subsequently deliver them to his associates Arvinder and Jashanpreet as directed by the Pakistan-based smuggler.

Acting on specific information that Gurjant had received a huge consignment via drone and was going to deliver it to his associates, police teams from Amritsar laid special check posts and intercepted the three accused, recovering 12 kg of heroin during the search.

Further investigation is underway to establish forward and backward linkages to uncover the entire network.

Man kills wife and four children in Gurugram, attempts suicide
A man allegedly killed his wife and their four children before attempting suicide by slitting his wrists at their home in Wazirpur village here, police said on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Nazma (35) and her four children — Iqra (14), Shifa (11), Ayaan (9) and Khadija (6). The accused, Nazim (35), is undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Nazim's brother found the family lying unconscious on the first floor when he returned home around 9:30 pm on Saturday. He rushed everyone to the hospital, where doctors declared the woman and children dead.

Nazim, a resident of Bilari in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, had been living with his family in a rented house in Wazirpur village for the past four to five months. He runs a salon in Garhi Harsaru village.

Police said Nazim and Nazma reportedly had frequent fights, and on Saturday night, after returning from work, had an argument with his wife. Nazim told police that his wife and kids did not wish to live.

"The motive is not clear yet but it appears there was some internal conflict going on in the house," said Assistant Commissioner of Police (West) Naveen Sharma. Whether Nazim killed his family by poisoning or strangulation is a matter of investigation.

2 US service members missing after military exercises in Morocco
Two U.S. service members are missing in southwestern Morocco after taking part in annual multinational military exercises, the United States African Command (AFRICOM) said on Sunday.

The incident occurred on May 2 near the Cap Draa Training Area near Tan Tan, close to the Atlantic Ocean. The African Lion exercise started in April and is scheduled to end early May.

AFRICOM said the U.S., Morocco and other participating countries have launched a search and rescue operation. "The incident remains under investigation and the search is ongoing," it said in a statement.

African Lion is the U.S. military's largest annual joint exercise on the continent and usually features high-ranking officials from the U.S. and its top African allies. Officials have said the annual engagement serves as a venue for strengthening regional security cooperation.

Over 130 foreign nationals arrested in Sri Lanka for cyber fraud
More than 130 foreign nationals were arrested in Sri Lanka for alleged cybercrime operations over the last two days, police said on Sunday.

In a raid in Thalangama, a Colombo suburb, police arrested 37 Chinese nationals on Saturday, including one woman. Two of them did not have valid visas and one did not possess a passport. All were aged between 24 and 44.

In a separate raid on Sunday, over 100 people were arrested in Rajagiriya, another Colombo suburb. Those arrested were from China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Madagascar, the Philippines, Thailand and Cambodia, and were operating from a rented apartment.

The police actions are part of a wider crackdown on cross-border online fraud networks operating from the island nation. Those arrested have been booked under the Computer Crimes Act, Sri Lanka's main law to counter cybercrime, hacking and data misuse.

In April, police arrested around 150 foreign nationals, most of them Chinese, over an alleged online financial fraud operation in Chilaw City.

Thousands evacuated as Mayon Volcano erupts in Philippines
The Philippines said on Sunday that thousands of people have evacuated the area south of Manila after Mayon Volcano erupted, and authorities advised the public to stay out of the six-kilometre radius danger zone.

The volcanology institute issued Alert Level 3 on its five-step scale, reporting strombolian activity and short-lived lava fountaining from one of the country's most active volcanoes. It also warned of possible landslides and lava flows.

3 accused in Hazaribag bank robbery case arrested from Uttar Pradesh
Police have arrested three persons accused of looting a bank in Jharkhand's Barhi area from Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi, and seized close to 5 kg of gold from them.

Around 3.9 kg of gold and cash were looted from the PSU bank within Barhi police station limits on April 24 by holding the manager and four staff members at gunpoint.

Following an investigation, police arrested Saurabh Kumar Yadav, Md Afazal, and the alleged mastermind Pankaj Singh near Rajbhar village within Sarnath police station limits in Varanasi with the help of the Uttar Pradesh Police's Special Task Force.

Police also recovered 912.22 grams of melted gold worth Rs 1.28 crore and Rs 20 lakh in cash. A sports utility vehicle, two motorcycles and six mobile phones used during the loot were also seized.

Odisha Police seizes 800 litres of chemicals meant to produce hashish oil in Malkangiri
Odisha Police on Sunday seized around 800 litres of chemicals and solvents used to make psychotropic drug hashish oil from a vehicle near Essar Chakk in Malkangiri district, officials said.

Around 50 kg of marijuana and two litres of hashish oil were also seized from the vehicle, they said, adding that the driver of the vehicle managed to flee.

Officials claimed that smugglers were planning to set up a hashish oil manufacturing unit in the ChitraKonda area, but could not do so due to police surveillance.

Hence, they set up a processing unit inside the vehicle that carried a fake registration number plate to evade police scrutiny, an officer said.

Apart from the around 800 litres of chemicals and solvents used for making hashish oil, specialised extraction equipment were also seized from the vehicle, he said.

Malkangiri's Superintendent of Police, Vinodh Patil H, said teams have been formed to nab the driver and other persons involved in the illegal activity.

Two die after motorcycle hits overbridge railings in Jharkhand
Two people died after their motorcycle crashed into the railings of an overbridge in Jharkhand’s Palamu district, police said. The accident occurred on Saturday night at Redma overbridge when the rider lost control while returning from a wedding in Lesliganj.
