Delhi Police arrest Surat man wanted in Rs 98 lakh Pharma scam
The Delhi Police have solved a fraud case pending for over a decade by arresting an elderly man from Surat, Gujarat, who was allegedly involved in cheating pharmaceutical companies of nearly Rs 98 lakh, officials said.

The accused, identified as Himmat Singh Lodha, was arrested from a township area in Surat on May 24. Police said he had been declared a proclaimed offender and was wanted in connection with a 2013 cheating case registered at Punjabi Bagh police station. A reward of Rs 50,000 had also been announced for information leading to his arrest.

According to investigators, Lodha allegedly posed as the proprietor of a corporation and convinced a pharmaceutical company to supply 550 kg of Gliclazide — a raw material used in medicines — valued at more than Rs 26 lakh.

Police said he issued post-dated cheques for the payment, but the cheques later bounced with the remark “account closed”. Soon after receiving the consignment, he allegedly vacated both his office and residence and went into hiding.

Officials added that a Delhi court declared him a proclaimed offender in July 2016 after he repeatedly evaded arrest.

Officials lift evacuation orders for some California residents near damaged chemical tank as explosion risk drops
Emergency officials lifted evacuation orders for some residents living near a damaged tank containing hazardous chemicals in Southern California after temperatures inside the tank fell enough to eliminate the risk of a catastrophic explosion.

There is no longer a risk of catastrophic explosion of the tank containing methyl methacrylate at the GKN Aerospace Transparency Systems plant in Garden Grove, near Los Angeles, Orange County Fire Authority division chief Craig Covey said.

Officials ordered about 50,000 Garden Grove residents to evacuate their homes on Thursday after the tank overheated and pressure built up inside. A crack discovered Sunday relieved some pressure and the temperature of the highly flammable gas inside continues to fall.

The tank's interior had cooled to 93 degrees Fahrenheit (33.9 degrees Celsius), Covey said Monday, down from 100 degrees a day earlier. Authorities have detected no hazardous chemical levels.
