What measures should the government adopt to check encroachments in R-North ward?

A TOI survey shows that citizens are unhappy with traffic, roads and are also disappointed with other services. Mumbai’s slide into decay must be arrested and the survey is the first step towards doing that.

Yes I travel 3hrs everyday covering distance of just 12km up and down full of potholes compelled to take medication to save my back!. Thorough survey by an independent like students wing of IITs or NGO's like CAG India can come out with unbiased problems and can bring in fresh perspective by suggesting innovative practical solutions in their report..

On footpaths in IC colony, there are fish/veg vendors. A dedicated market area needs to be developed and sold/rented to them(no giving free), so footpaths can be made free. Vishal has raised a very important and valid point. Why should govt. provide free homes to slum dwellers? A common middle class man works so hard to live in an equivalent size house, and the slum dwellers get free homes, which they again give on rent and encroach some other govt. land. Instead should make provision to provide jobs to encourage people to earn. And instead of encroaching on govt land in Borivli, that person can earn and own a house in palghar or even further (govt. should make provision to provide easy loans to such people). Teach a person to fish instead of giving him fish. Also, once the place is cleared of illegal encroachments, the officials have to regularly monitor to check that they don't return. Else, punish/fine the official/corporator (as rightly said in a comment above. Just as an employee gets pink slip if he fails in his duties, similarly officials should be given this as a duty, else they should be thrown off). Why can't corporators keep a watch on their area? If each ward officials do their bit in their small allocated area, the whole of Mumbai can be made slum free.

All roads are occupied with political and official backing. So punish the concerned corporation Councillor and officials if there is an encroachment as they are involved in it.

Yes, the citizens of Mumbai are really unhappy with the increasing traffic and the govt measures to meet with the challenges. Parking woes need to be addressed by Pay & Park facilities, most Western Rly trains should run upto Bandra and further only more suburban trains. Western Rly. Should lay new tracks on extreme west for diverting traffic, finally meeting at Churchgate.

you are right- but this not the effective solution. over hauling of the system is needed. for this purpose- it is necessary to have a stroorrupt.ng headed administrator to eliminate the wasted interests . it is a difficult task as majority of politicians/govt. machinery are corrupt
