Weak or unstable internet connection
Check your connection bars. If low, consider switching locations or toggling between mobile data and Wi-Fi. Persistent issues may indicate a different underlying problem.
Accidental activation of silent mode
Ensure your phone's ring/silent switch is not on silent. It's located on the side of your iPhone – slide it upwards for audible notifications.

Check the Control Center by holding down the Bluetooth icon to see if any other device is connected. Notifications might be rerouted without your knowledge.
Do Not Disturb (DND) mode is active
Turn off DND mode in Settings > Do Not Disturb. This mode suppresses sounds not only for WhatsApp but for all apps.
