Viral: Russian-speaking passenger strips mid-flight, threatens crew, plane forced to make emergency landing; gets arrested in underwear

Flying is stressful enough - late departures, cramped seats, crying babies. Now imagine your whole trip going off the rails because one passenger completely lost it mid-air. Stripping down to his underwear. Yelling threats. Forcing the plane to make an emergency landing. Sounds unreal, right? Sadly, this actually happened on a routine AirAsia flight, leaving passengers shaken and the internet flooded with viral clips.

The flight that went sideways

On January 29, AirAsia fliOn January 29, AirAsia flight FD647 took off from Nha Trang, Vietnam, headed to Bangkok, Thailand. It was already delayed by over an hour and a half, so people were tired and ready to just get there. Then things took a wild turn.

Midway through the flight, a Russian-speaking passenger started acting strange and aggressive, turning a calm journey into full-blown chaos. The crew had no choice but to divert the plane and land at Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport.

Stripping down and cabin chaos

Not long after takeoff, the man began taking off his clothes until he was left in just black underwear. He wandered up and down the aisle, jumped between seats, hung around the galley, and argued with the cabin crew.

At one point, he shouted in English, “Don’t touch me,” and demanded the door be opened. He even yelled at other passengers to tell the crew to unlock the door. Reports from Russian media say he seemed drunk. He kept banging on the toilet door and picking fights with people around him.

Things spillared fast

Videos from inside the plane show him getting more and more worked up. He yelled in Russian about jumping off the plane and screamed, “Do they want us to die here?” He even tried to provoke the crew into fighting him, while some passengers nervously tried to calm him down.

Emergency landing called

With the situation getting out of hand, the crew alerted the captain and asked for an emergency landing. When the plane finally touched down, the man was still screaming to be let off immediately.

Before the stairs were even in place, he jumped off the aircraft onto the runway, hurt his leg, and tried to run anyway.

Caught on the runway

Thai police quickly caught him on the tarmac - still in his underwear, as he attempted to flee. According to News18, the “drunk” passenger now faces heavy fines or even jail time under Thai law.

Everyone else made it out safe

Thankfully, no other passengers or crew members were hurt. AirAsia said safety protocols were followed and ground teams stepped in right away. The flight was handled without further issues, but for the people on board, it’s probably a trip they’ll never forget.
