The year 2023 witnessed remarkable celestial events, including a close encounter with a giant asteroid and astonishing solar flares. As we look ahead to 2024, skywatchers can anticipate two significant events: two Solar Eclipses and one Lunar Eclipse. Here are the details:
Solar Eclipses:
1. April 8 - Total Solar Eclipse: - This total solar eclipse will commence over the South Pacific Ocean and extend across North America, passing through the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
- Additionally, a Partial Solar Eclipse will be visible in island nations of the Caribbean Sea, such as Cuba, Costa Rica, Cayman Islands, Dominica, French Polynesia, Jamaica, and others.
Timings (UTC): - Eclipse Start: 3:42 pm
- Eclipse End: 4:36 pm
- Maximum Eclipse: 6:17 pm
2. October 2 - Annular Solar Eclipse: - This annular solar eclipse, also known as a "ring of fire" eclipse, will be visible in South America (Argentina and Chile), with a partial solar eclipse visible in South America, the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, and North America.
Timings (UTC): - Eclipse Start: 3:42 pm
- Eclipse End: 4:50 pm
- Maximum Eclipse: 6:45 pm
Note: Since these eclipses will not be visible in India, the Sutak time is not applicable.
Lunar Eclipses:
1. March 25 - Penumbral Lunar Eclipse: - This eclipse will be a Penumbral Lunar Eclipse, visible in Europe, Australia, Africa, North/East Asia, North America, South America, and the Pacific and Antarctica.
Timings (UTC): - Penumbral Eclipse: 4:53 am
- Maximum Eclipse: 7:12 am
- Penumbral Eclipse Ends: 9:32 am
2. September 18 - Partial Lunar Eclipse: - The second lunar eclipse of the year will be a partial lunar eclipse, visible in Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, North/West North America, North/East South America, the Pacific, Atlantic, Arctic, and Antarctica.
Timings (UTC): - Penumbral Lunar Eclipse: 3:38 pm
- Partial Lunar Eclipse: 4:46 pm
- Full Lunar Eclipse: 6:03 pm
- Maximum Lunar Eclipse: 6:32 pm
- Full Lunar Eclipse Ends: 7:02 pm
- Partial Lunar Eclipse Ends: 8:18 pm
- Penumbral Lunar Eclipse Ends: 9:27 pm
