Politicians and their Educational Qualifications

It is important that we know who we vote for. India is the largest democracy in the world, so as responsible voters it is our duty to choose representatives who can take India on the path to being the biggest superpower in the world. While education qualifications are not a 'be all' criteria of choosing our representatives it sure is one of them. Here is a list of 10 politicians across party lines who are highly qualified and have an impressive educational background. Take a look at who they are.

Dr Manmohan Singh

The former Prime Minister of India, Dr Singh’s educational degrees include a BA and MA Economics from Punjab University, Economics Tripos from University of Cambridge and a DPhil from Oxford University. Dr Manmohan Singh has contributed a lot to India’s economic growth. He was the Finance Minister in 1991 in PV Narsimha Rao’s government, and it was under him that Economic Liberalization of India happened.

Dr Jitendra Singh

Dr Jitendra Singh, currently holds the portfolio of Minister of State for Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Earth Sciences. Having multiple ministries under him Dr Jitendra Singh has multiple degrees to his name too which include- M.B.B.S. and M.D. in Medicine, and holds a Fellowship in Diabetes (MNAMS) in Diabetes and Endocrinology.

Kapil Sibal

Kapil Sibal is currently the President of Supreme Court Bar Association, but played a long journey with the Congress party, until he left the party in 2022. He is one of the most famous lawyers of India. He has a BA and MA degree in History from St Stephens. Further he did his LLB from Campus Law University of Delhi and to do his LLM he went to Harvard Law School.

Dr S Jaishankar

The feisty and confident Foreign Minister of India is admired by today’s youth. He has represented India with a sense of pride and confidence. His educational qualifications sing the same tune- he holds a bachelor’s degree from St. Stephens and a Master’s degree in Political Science.

P Chidambaram

P Chidambaram has held the position of Finance Minister four times in the years of Congress at the Centre. He is a highly qualified politician and has a lot of educational degrees to his name. He has a BSc degree in Statistics and a Bachelors of Law degree. He completed his MBA from Harvard School of Business. He also holds a Master’s degree from Loyola College.

Jyotiraditya Scindia

Jyotiraditya Scindia is the Minister of Civil aviation. In the earlier cabinet he held the same portfolio. Scindia was once a Congressmen but his allegiance shifted to BJP in 2020. He has an amazing educational background which includes a bachelor's degree in Economics from Harvard College and further pursued a Master's degree in Business Administration from Stanford.

Jairam Ramesh

Jairam Ramesh is the spokesperson for the Congress party and its main strategist. He has a BTech degree in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Bombay and a Msc degree from MIT.

Ashwini Vaishnaw

In Modi 3.0, Ashwini Vaishnaw has again been given the ministry of railways. He also holds the ministries of information and broadcasting, electronics and information technology. His educational background is impressive too. He secured an AIR 27 in IAS examinations in 1994. He also has a gold medal in electronic and communications engineering. Later in 2008, Mr Vaishnaw pursued MBA at the University of Pennsylvania.

Salman Khurshid is a former Minister of External Affairs of India. He is also an advocate and an author. He completed his bachelor's from St Stephen's College and then went to Oxford University to do his MA, B.C.L, and B.A Jurisprudence.

Shashi Tharoor

This man is lovingly called Nation's first influencer- he has enamored many with his way of articulate speaking. He got his bachelor’s degree from St. Stephens College and then completed his M.A, M.A.L.D and Ph.D from Tufts University. Shashi Tharoor is a Lok Sabha member from Thiruvananthapuram.
