Michael Jackson’s most loved pets that are worth knowing!
With all the hype around the recently released biopic of the legendary King of Pop-- Michael Jackson, fans are eager to know more and more about him and his beautiful way of living a quaint life far from the stardom with his most loved pet friends! There’s no denying that fans of Michael Jackson would know his love for the Neverland Ranch, which was more than just a home; it was a private sanctuary designed to escape the intense glare of global superstardom. At the heart of this fantasy estate was a fully functioning private zoo, filled with exotic animals that became some of the singer’s closest companions. Michael's deep bond with his animals was legendary, and several of his pets became pop-culture icons in their own right, reflecting his whimsical and gentle nature.
Bubbles the Chimpanzee
From being spotted in his videos, Bubbles was undoubtedly the most famous pet in pop culture history, bought by Michael from a Texas research facility in the early 1980s. The two became inseparable, with Bubbles famously wearing matching outfits, sleeping in a crib in Michael’s bedroom, and even learning how to do the moonwalk. He traveled with Michael on promotional tours, drank tea with the mayor of Osaka, and sat in on recording sessions for the Bad album. As Bubbles grew older, stronger, and more difficult to manage around children, he was safely retired to a sanctuary in Florida, where he still lives today, enjoying a quiet life away from the spotlight.
Muscles the Python
Before Bubbles took over the spotlight, Muscles the boa constrictor (often referred to as a python by fans and media) was Michael’s favorite companion in the early 1980s.Muscles made frequent appearances in Michael's early photoshoots and was even credited in the liner notes of the Thriller album. The gentle giant of a snake was known to wrap himself around Michael's shoulders during creative sessions, helping the singer relax.
Michael reportedly kept Muscles in his bedroom and would let the snake slide freely around his private living quarters, terrifying unsuspecting guests.
Thriller and Sabu the Bengal Tigers
Named after his record-breaking album, Thriller was a stunning female Bengal tiger who lived at Neverland Ranch alongside her brother, Sabu. Michael took immense pride in his tigers, building them a state-of-the-art, spacious enclosure that mimicked their natural habitat. He loved showing them off to visitors, using their presence to teach the young guests who visited Neverland about wildlife conservation.
Louis and Lola the Llamas
Among the many free-roaming animals at Neverland, two llamas named Louis and Lola held a very special place in Michael's heart. The gentle, fluffy duo were known to wander the estate freely, often greeting Michael at his front door or grazing on the manicured lawns.Their fame grew when recording legend Freddie Mercury reportedly complained about them during a 1983 recording session with Michael in Los Angeles.
Gypsy the Asian Elephant
Gypsy was a magnificent, five-ton Asian elephant who arrived at Neverland in 1991 as a spectacular gift from Michael’s close friend, actress Elizabeth Taylor.
The gift was a token of appreciation after Michael hosted Taylor’s lavish wedding to Larry Fortensky at his ranch.
Gypsy lived in a massive, custom-built pasture at Neverland, complete with a swimming pool and plenty of space to roam. Michael adored Gypsy's gentle spirit and would often spend quiet afternoons feeding her fresh fruit and watching her bathe.
