First Indian actor to start his website
Nowadays, every actor is social media savvy. But the Megastar was really ahead of his time and he was the first Indian actor to launch his own website. Strangely, he does not have a Twitter handle or Facebook account at the moment. However, remember, Chiranjeevi used the online platform even before it was cool or mainstream.
Supreme Hero to Megastar
Chiranjeevi was initially given the title of ‘Supreme Hero’. But when the movie ‘Maranamrudangam’ came out in 1988, his title was changed to Megastar. Even though Supreme Hero sounds impressive, it was the title of Megastar that stuck in the hearts of all his fans and this title has become synonymous with Chiru’s name itself.
First South Indian actor to attend Academy Awards
Everyone knows that the Academy Awards or the Oscars as they are better known, is one of the biggest movie awards in the world. Now imagine if an Indian actor was made a Guest of Honour of such a prestigious event, it would be a super proud moment for all of us. That is exactly what happened during the Academy Awards of 1987. Chiranjeevi was made the Guest of Honour and if that was not enough, he became the first South Indian actor to attend the Oscars.
Almost did a Hollywood movie
In 1999, Chiranjeevi was about to do his first Hollywood film, titled as ‘Return of the thief of Baghdad’. Sadly, the film was never completed and the shooting was suspended for unknown reasons. Had the film released, he would have joined the list of greats like Rajinikanth, who starred in a Hollywood movie called ‘Bloodstone’.
Highest income tax payer
In the year 2002, the Megastar received a Samman Award for being the highest income tax payer in the financial year of 1999-2000. He was given this honour by none other than Minister of State for Finance who awarded it on behalf of the Indian government.
Superb success in single, double and triple roles
A movie running for hundred days is a pretty big deal today. It was even more so back in the 90s. However for Chiranjeevi, it was a cakewalk. He is the only actor in the history of Telugu cinema whose movies have fared for more than hundred days irrespective of whether he has played single, double and triple roles. It didn’t matter how many roles he played, his movies always went on to become blockbusters.
Was a NCC cadet in early days
Chiranjeevi is one of those people who came into showbiz from a non cinema background. His father was a constable and Chiru kept shifting with his family during his schooldays. He was also a NCC ca det and he was actually a part of the Republic Day parade held in New Delhi back in the early 70s.
Khaidi and Khaidi No 150
Finally, here is an interesting fact about the title of his upcoming film. It is titled as ‘Khaidi No 150’. The reason for this title is that the Megastar starred in a film called ‘Khaidi’ in 1983, which truly changed his career and got him his never ending legion of fans. Hence, needless to say, ‘Khaidi No 150’ is also expected to mark a stellar comeback of the megastar. The 150 in the title of course signifies the fact that this is his 150th film.
